Every year around this time we move the clocks forward. One hour. Just sixty minutes.
It’s a small change on the surface, but it signals something bigger — a new season.
Longer days.
More light.
A reminder that things move forward whether we’re ready or not.
Spring has always felt like a natural time to pause and ask an important question:
What do you want to see change?
Not just in the season — but in your work, your goals, and the direction you’re heading.
Many of us in the coding and auditing world spend our days focused on rules, documentation, denials, and compliance. We get very good at identifying what’s wrong in a chart.
But sometimes we forget to review our own professional chart.
Ask yourself:
- Are there skills you’ve been wanting to develop but keep putting off?
- Is there a certification you’ve been thinking about pursuing?
- Have you wanted to start teaching, writing, or sharing your knowledge?
- Are you staying in the same place simply because it feels comfortable?
Often the biggest barriers aren’t time or opportunity.
Sometimes it’s simply hesitation.
Many professionals carry around a mental list that sounds something like this:
Someday I’ll write an article.
Someday I’ll present at a chapter meeting.
Someday I’ll start teaching.
Someday I’ll build something of my own.
The problem with “someday” is that it rarely shows up on the calendar.
Progress usually begins with a small decision:
Take one step.
Just like the clocks moving forward, sometimes growth requires a shift.
It might mean:
- Submitting that article you’ve been thinking about writing.
- Volunteering to present at your local AAPC chapter.
- Creating educational content to help other coders.
- Studying for that certification you’ve been putting off.
Every step forward creates momentum.
And momentum builds confidence.
As the season changes, consider asking yourself:
If nothing were holding you back, what would you start today?
Then ask the follow-up question that matters even more:
What is one small step you could take this month to move toward it?
Spring reminds us that growth doesn’t happen all at once.
It happens one step at a time.
And sometimes all it takes is the willingness to spring forward.
